Ram Venkatraman

Ram Venkatraman started his career as businessman selling high-voltage underground electric transmission cables to large utilities. Every time the company produces a new product, he was tasked to take the message to customers and position the product. Later, he wanted to become a writer and took to business writing and worked for a newspaper in the Middle East writing about the oil industry. Soon another newspaper and eventually tech money lured him to Sun Microsystems.

A good challenge motivates him, and organizations are full of them. In this information age, customers always do not get “the right information at the right time”. He sets about to find solutions for this problem in various industries such as enterprise software, networking equipment, middleware, wind turbine manufacturing, and medical science. Every industry is different, and each needs a different approach, tools, and processes.

Tech doc leaders need to be thoughtful, flexible, and sell solutions. Over the years, he has learned to identify customer needs for information and helped teams fill that gap. But the first step is to create a strategy and sell it to leaders and cross-functional groups in the organization. Passing on what he has learned to the next generation of leaders is the logical next step.
